In my literacy class we have these things called lapbooks , lapbooks are where we keep our very important papers that help us learn and that teach us new stuff or even stuff we already learned. One paper that we have in our lapbook is a small size poster known as ANSWER , A stands for Analyze . Analyze the questions . Circle key words and underline what it asks you to find . N stands for , Notes are important . Pay attention to major topics and important details . Always keep mind the main idea of the text . What is really important? S stands for Scan the text for relevant details. Read the text and underline details that are relavent to the question or prompt . W stands for Write . Write by using notes , turn your notes into complete sentences using your own words . E stands for explain . Explain with evidence from the text , don't just answer the question or prompt . Say more about it.
Use transition words and evidence based terms. Remember the burden of proof is on
you as the writer. R stands for , Reread . Make sure what you wrote and edit actually makes sense. Did you actually write what you meant to write? There's also another one called PQA wich stands for putting the question in the answer . Something else we learned was dialogue , dialogue is like talking but when you write what the person is saying it goes a little something like this . " How are you kids doing today? " said Mrs. Rodas . That was an Example of what I learned in Literacy . Another thing is this poster in my class room known as S.C.O.P.E . The S in scope stands for Spelling , consult dictionaries, trustworthy classmates , and think about word parts that you know how to spell. Most words are made of smaller words. The C in scope stands for Capitalization , Proper nouns like I , peoples names , brand names , and the beginning of all sentences need to be capitalized . The O in scope stands for Organization , Your writing should flow and make sense . Sometimes revising can make a essay sound and look better . The P stands for Punctuation , the end of a sentence and contraction use punctuation . The E in scope stands for Express Complete Thoughts , did you write what actual made sense ? Did you write what you meant to write ? Something else I learned in my Literacy class was RAPP . Restate the question , Answer the question , and Proofread and edit . There's also another one known as Run On Sentence. Run on sentences have 2 or more independent clauses smooshed together in to one sentence incorrectly. Common usage errors are to , too , and two because sometimes people use those in an incorrect way . There are even more . My favorite one of all is FANBOYS . For , And , Nor , But , Or , Yet , and So . Those are things you can use to compare and you can also use them in sentences to connect them . Something we do in my literacy class is compare and contrast . One time we compared and contrasted our selves with the Sound the Jubilee characters . There's also another comparing and contrasting but this one has 3 things you compare and contrast with . One of the bubbles is for comparing . The 2nd bubble is for contrasting , there's one in the middle wich is the one that's alike , but then there's the one at the bottom wich you compare the one to the top right from the bottom to the top left . Point is a very important thing you need to know . 1st person point of view key words : I , me , us , and we . 2nd person point of view key word : you . 3rd person point view key words : He , She , and They . Another thing that is very important are ending marks .! Make sure after every sentence there should be an ending mark . Declarative = Period , Imperative = Period , but in a commanding way . Interrogative = Question Mark and Exclamatory = Exclamation mark .
